COVINGTON, La. (AP) - A 42-year-old Slidell man accused of stabbing his roommate to death has been convicted of second-degree murder.
A St. Tammany Parish Jury returned the verdict Wednesday.
Felipe Fuentes faces an automatic life sentence when he returns to Judge Reginald Badeaux's courtroom on Jan. 18.
Police say Fuentes and his roommate, 25-year-old Miguel Garcia, got into a fight at their apartment in November 2011. Investigators say they had been drinking, and Fuentes went to the bathroom. Garcia held the bathroom door closed as a joke, and when Fuentes got out, he began fighting with Garcia.
Police say others brought Fuentes somewhere else in hopes to calm him down, but Fuentes went back to the apartment and stabbed Garcia in the chest with a 4-inch knife.
