SLCC hosting express registration in Abbeville

South Louisiana Community College Express registration will be held Saturday, July 20, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. New students and returning students can visit the Gulf Area campus to get a jumpstart on enrolling for all Fall classes. The event is a one-stop-shop for students, who can meet with representatives from admissions and financial aid, along with college faculty and staff. Free hot dogs and drinks will be provided.

The HVAC program is returning to the campus after the retirement of a long time instructor. Charles Kibbe will be teaching HVAC courses this fall. "I am a board member for the Acadiana Heat Pump Association and at every meeting I am approached by more than one employer concerning needs for trained employees," said Kibbe. "Putting this together seems like a right fit for our industry and our students."

According to the U.S. Department of Labor and Statistics, the average pay for HVAC mechanics and installers is $20.45 an hour. The industry is expected to grow 34 percent between 2010 and 2020. Fall semester classes are being offered in a variety of ways including traditional classroom settings, video conferencing, and online. Students can find courses and register for the Fall semester by selecting the "Class Schedule Search" tab within their LoLA accounts or at www.solacc.edu.

Programs offered at the Gulf Area campus include: Business, Cosmetology, GED, Industrial Agriculture, Practical Nursing, and Welding, among others. For more information about the HVAC program or the Express Registration, call Admissions at (337) 521-8896 or email admissions@solacc.edu.
