Six years ago Hurricane Rita hit and caused more than eleven billion dollars in damage along the gulf coast.
Cody Vice is from Abbeville.
He says some parts of his nieghborhood were under 5 feet of water.
Rita destroyed his home and everything in it.
"You get to your house and everything is floating like ice box and chairs,"said Vice.
Before evacuating to higher ground Vice says he and neighbors pitched in to help elderly neighbors get out.
82 year-old George Readom was helped.
Vice says Readom was shocked to see water gushing into his home.
"He says he never seen anything like this in the 70 years he's been living in this neighborhood,"said Vice.
Even though it's been six years since Rita hit, some of the homes in his neighborhood still haven't been restored, but he says he's thankful neighbors survived.
