A six year-old boy was killed while trying to get on the school bus in Milton. Lederion Miller had just started kindergarten at Milton Elementary School this year and riding the school bus was a normal part of his routine.
His Godfather, Kevin Carmouche, said "you would think your children riding the bus--you wouldn't have anything to worry about. I guess you have to look at situation differently now."
He said he was a typical kindergartner--always laughing and enjoying the little things in life.
"At first I didn't believe it," Carmouche said. "I didn't believe it at all. When my mamma called me she had to call me twice in order for it to hit me, because you'd never think something would happen like that, but it did."
Carmouche said Lederion's smile was contagious, even when he was missing a few teeth.
"Always smiling, just his giggling," he said. "That's going to be the killer part, missing him-- knowing he's gone and we can't bring him back."
His family said even though Lederion is gone, they know he's in a better place and his smile will live on through his younger brother and sister.
"If we could turn back time we would but we can't, we just can't," Carmouche said.
An account has been set up at Farmer's Merchant Bank to help pay for his funeral. The account name is Lederion Jude Miller Benefit Fund.
