SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - A Shreveport woman has been arrested on charges she stole more than $100,000 from a local church.
The Caddo Parish Sheriff's Office says 63-year-old Evelyn Brown, a volunteer treasurer at Broadmoor Christian Church in Shreveport, fraudulently accessed church bank accounts and transferred roughly $104,000 into an unused church operating account. Brown then allegedly forged a signature to write checks to herself from the account.
Brown was arrested Tuesday and booked into jail on charges of felony theft and illegal transmission of monetary funds.
The sheriff's office said the church reported the alleged theft after noticing discrepancies in their accounts.
