SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Shreveport will be a step closer to getting a new park where dogs can run free if the city council decides to approve an ordinance for the park this week.
The city council plans to vote on an ordinance for the park when it meets Tuesday. Proponents have been pushing for the park for four years.
A committee narrowed the possible sites for the park to Charles and Marie Hamel Memorial Park along the Red River.
The Times reports the city hopes the location, combined with the aesthetics of a polished dog park, will enrich the city.
The city has told the park's backers to come up with the money for the park through fundraising or donations. Equipment cost is estimated at $250,000.
