Sheriff says suspect's wife and pastor had some sexual relationship

The sheriff in Calcasieu Parish says there are allegations the pastor killed over the weekend had some sort of sexual relationship with the suspect's wife.  The sheriff couldn't say whether it was consensual sexual relations at this point.

Deputies say they were told by the suspect, Woodrow Karey Jr., he intercepted some "inappropriate text messages" from his wife to the pastor. The sheriff says he has not confirmed that yet because they still need to get a search warrant to look through the phone. Kerry allegedly confronted his wife, and then on Wednesday she filed a rape complaint on Harris. Harris was killed Friday night. Sheriff Tony Mancuso says he'll be turning over the case to the District Attorney's Office to determine if the 2nd degree murder charge will stick.

The sheriff also says the men were at one time friends, and the suspect is a deacon in the church. He's asking for the public to "tell the truth" and give them the "true facts", so they can complete the investigation.

Friday night Woodrow Karey Junior allegedly shot Pastor Ronald Harris twice inside the church. Karey had no known criminal history and surrendered to deputies following the shooting in front of about 65 worshippers. Detectives are continuing to interview the witnesses who were inside the Tabernacle Praise Worship Center.

Karey is being held on a one million dollar bond.

Over the weekend, his daughter spoke to KPLC in Lake Charles. "The first shoot he hit he hit a plant and I remember my daddy taking off running and he shot him in the back and he fell by our kids trying to run and he got over him again and kind of stood there I guess to watch him take his last breath," said Talisha Harris.

A candlelight service is planned at the Tabernacle of Praise Worship Center located at 307 Deshotel Lane in Lake Charles on Tuesday, October 1st at 7:00p.m. The gathering will begin at 6:30p.m. in the parking lot.

There will be a memorial service on Thursday, October 10th at The True Light Missionary Baptist Church located at 1518 Gerstner Memorial Drive in Lake Charles. That service will begin at 7:00p.m.

Harris' wake and funeral will be at The Agape Love Center located at 1515 Texas Street in Nachitoches, LA. The wake will be Friday, October 11th and the funeral will be on Saturday, October 12th.
