SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) - Caddo Parish Sheriff Steve Prator says district attorney's staffers may have overstepped commissions he granted them.
Prator tells The Times that he gave limited commissions to an assistant district attorney and nine investigators to make misdemeanor arrests as needed in their duties.
He says the commissions are not for law enforcement, but he's learned that at least one district attorney's staffer made a traffic stop. He says he's also learned that some have used red lights and sirens on their vehicles.
Assistant District Attorney Lea Hall says he once called police about a suspected drunken driver and followed the car until it stopped, but did not try to arrest anyone. He says he turned his lights on as a precaution while waiting for police.
