The Vermilion Parish Sheriff's Office is adding its voice to the choir of law enforcement agencies urging drivers to stay off the road today.
Sheriff Mike Couvillon says his deputies have responded to "multiple accidents" across Vermilion Parish this morning. He added that roads remain iced over, making traveling across the parish extremely dangerous.
Couvillon says his office is working with DOTD to obtain more barricades and close roads. However, according to Couvillon, road conditions are limiting this effort and the amount of barricades that are available.
Other Acadiana law enforcement agencies have seen their share of trouble on the road this morning. The Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says it has worked 33 crashes since 6 a.m., while the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office has worked at least 15 this morning.
