Sheriff confirms arrest connected to Mickey Shunick case

The mobile home being searched in Church Point is the address of Brandon Scott Lavergne, 33, who has been arrested in connection with the Mickey Shunick case, according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz. This afternoon, Lafayette Police arrested Lavergne in Lafayette then notified the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office about a search warrant to be executed at 143 Elaine Rd., according to St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson Megan Vizena. Crime scene tape is surrounding the mobile home which is located at 143 Elaine Rd.
Lavergne's address is listed at 143 Elaine Rd. on the St. Landry Parish Sex Offender website. Lavergne is a registered sex offender and was convicted in 2000 of aggravated oral sexual battery. According to the website, he drives a white 2011 Chevrolet Silverado. Investigators have been looking for a person of interest seen on video surveillance driving a white Chevy Z-71.
