Iberia Parish Sheriff Louis Ackal has issued an advisory warning residents of the increased damage caused by all terrain vehicles trespassing on farmland.
This is a problem more and more farmers are seeing throughout Iberia Parish. The damage these vehicles can cause to the property and crops per individual farmer can be in the thousands of dollars, said Ackal.
Sheriff Ackal advised that persons who are caught trespassing on all terrain vehicles could face charges of felony criminal damage to property, criminal trespass or other numerous charges related to this crime. They could be sentenced to over a year in jail and face thousands of dollars in fines, said Ackal. Individuals who are also caught driving on a roadway with a non-licensed vehicle will be cited and could have steep penalties or be sentenced to jail.
