Shelter for girls opens in Lafayette

Troubled girls in Acadiana have a new home.
The Acadiana Shelter for Girls closed in September 2012 after 38 years of operation.
Now, an extended residential program has been opened by shelter operator Acadiana Youth Inc. to provide a place for adolescent girls who are struggling with addictions.
The program is called Steps, says Acadiana Youth director Vicki Boudreaux.
The nonprofit organization already offers a short-term shelter for boys and girls awaiting foster families.
