Sheen spotted after Miss. River barge collision

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - The Coast Guard says a collision between two barges spilled less than 400 gallons of oil into the Mississippi River at the Port of Greater Baton Rouge.

No injuries were reported after one of the barges struck another that was offloading fuel at a transfer station Thursday night.

Coast Guard officials say the spill was limited to oil that was inside a transfer hose on the stationary barge.

River traffic wasn't shut down after the collision, but other vessels have been instructed to reduce speeds near the site of the accident.

Coast Guard Lt. Tory Saxon said a sheen was spotted on the river after the collision. Cleanup workers were trying to capture any oil that can be recovered.
