Lafayette Fire Department responded to an early morning fire in the the 800 block of Genevieve Drive.
LFD Spokesperson Alton Trahan said a two-story shed located in the backyard of the residence was fully involved when firefighters arrived on the scene. Firefighters battled the structure fire for twenty-five minutes before getting it under control. The fire was contained to the structure, which sustained heavy fire damage.
According to Trahan, the owner, Jason Emmer, was not home when the fire started. Emmer was contacted by a neighbor, who also called 911.
Fire investigators examined the structure and determined that the fire originated on the first level of the shed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
