"Shake Your Trail Feather" to raise awareness & money for Bayou Teche

The TECHE Project presents "Shake Your Trail Feather" at Parc des Ponts in Breaux Bridge, Saturday, Oct. 19 from noon to 6.

The TECHE Project is a non-profit group working to raise awareness of the environmental, cultural, historical, and recreational values of Bayou Teche.

At this time, we are proud to announce a collaboration between Christine Balfa and the TECHE Project to bring the second annual Shake Your Trail Feather concert event to Breaux Bridge.

This festival raises funds to create projects and maintain facilities along the Bayou Teche Paddle Trail. The Bayou Teche Paddle Trail is a National Park Service recognized paddle trail that will draw paddlers from around the U.S. to experience paddling in Cajun Country. "I live on Bayou Teche and I am excited we are inviting so many people to visit this special water trail. It's a real moment of pride to designate Bayou Teche as a national destination to explore," says Christine Balfa. "I know paddlers will take care of our water and respect our land."

Shake Your Trail Feather will begin at Noon on Saturday, October 19th. The cost is free; however, the TECHE Project is raising funds for the Paddle Trail by selling an official festival pin for $5. Food, beverages and merchandise will also be available for purchase. Concert performances will include Makers Reel (Indie Rock), BonSoir Catin (Cajun), and Corey Ledet and His Zydeco Band (Zydeco).

Louisiana Folk Roots will also host a "Heritage Stage" where host Todd Mouton will interview authorities on the history and culture of Bayou Teche. The St. Bernard School students will perform an acoustic set as well as other local musicians.

Pack and Paddle is providing a kayak for raffle. Tickets will be $2 per piece and you must be present to win. The Lafayette Paddle Club will be paddling to the event from Arnaudville and Bayou Teche Experience will be offering shuttles and kayak rental for a shorter 1.5 hour paddle from Poche Bridge. For more information about these paddling opportunities, contact bayoutecheexpeience.com. There will also be activities for kids at the event.

The Assistant Secreatry of State Parks and the Atkapa-Ishak Trail planners at the Municipal Planning Organization will be unveiling plans for the multi-use trailhead to be constructed at Parc des Ponts and the three-parish-wide Atakapas-Ishak multi-purpose trail. Representatives from the TECHE Project will be presenting the demo for the Official Paddle Trail Map. TECHE Project's Historian will host a "ask and answer" tent to talk about the history of Bayou Teche and our Cajuns For Bayou Teche Group will be there to highlight the bayou clean-up efforts we are undertaking. The Bayou Teche Water Sentinels will be presenting their findings from several years of water quality monitoring work on the Teche. Tour du Teche will also share highlights from the 4th annual kayak and canoe race, and the Petite Tour du Teche race.

St. Martin Parish Tourism and the City of Breaux Bridge have partnered with the TECHE Project to make this event possible. "Recreation trails that accommodate bicyclists, runners and paddlers are an innovative and fun way to draw tourists to our town. It also improves the quality of life for our residents by providing them options to participate in safe, outdoor recreation activities in our own community," says Tina Begnaud from the Breaux Bridge Chamber of Commerce and Department of Tourism.
