The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office arrested a sex offender for being out of compliance of his sex offender conditions. Initially the Louisiana State Police arrested Melvin Tyrone Carrier on 7/4/10 for Careless Operation, Driving under Suspension and DWI third Offense in Iberia Parish. Suspect was incarcerated in IPJ. The Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office Sex Offender Division discovered that Carrier was a convicted sex offender in Oakland, CA. Iberia Parish Sheriff's Sex Offender Registry learned Carrier had been convicted of Rape by Force, Pandering and Oral Copulation with weapon in 1982. This suspect was required to register for life as a convicted sex offender upon his release from prison. He had been out of compliance and not registered since 2004. Investigation revealed Carrier had been living in and out of Iberia Parish since January 2010 and traveling back and forth across state lines to California. Iberia Parish Sheriff's Office obtained a warrant for failure to register as a sex offender in Iberia Parish and served this warrant on Carrier while he is incarcerated in the Iberia Parish Jail. This information was also supplied to the United States Marshall's Service U. S. Department of Justice for possible Federal Charges.
