As part of the City of New Iberia's Sewer Improvements, the City will conduct smoke testing of
the Sanitary sewer system on May 20 to locate any defects in sewer pipes. The following streets will be tested:
1700 and 1800 block of Anderson
1800 block of Marigold
Any smoke that residents may see coming from vents, manholes or holes in the ground is nontoxic and creates no fire hazard. Smoke should not enter
homes. If smoke does enter a home, the resident should open doors and windows to ventilate the house, and leave the premises until the smoke dissipates. Smoke entering a home usually indicates a leak in the household plumbing, However, dry sewer traps may allow smoke to enter through drains. To eliminate this problem, residents should run water into all drains regularly to prevent traps from drying out.
If you have any questions, please contact the City Wastewater Department (337) 369-2367.
