Service projects still needed for United Way of Acadiana, UL event

United Way of Acadiana is seeking service projects in Lafayette Parish that would benefit from local student volunteer engagement. The deadline to submit a project is October 1.

On October 19, more than 1,500 University of Louisiana at Lafayette students will come together for The Big Event to complete hands-on service projects in an effort to give back by volunteering in communities throughout Lafayette Parish.

"We've had such a positive response to The Big Event from UL students wanting to lend a helping hand in their community," said Keler Williams, director of volunteer mobilization. "Now, because of that response, we're seeking even more volunteer opportunities and ways to make a difference."

Projects may include but are not limited to the following activities:
--beautification and landscaping
--painting
--cleaning
--event set-up and assembly
--special event assistance
--refurbishing
--moving and organizing
--office work such as filing, copying, etc.
--holiday preparations
--volunteer activities with children, the elderly, veterans, etc.
--building projects and other activities that support and improve the community

Any group or individual interested in submitting a volunteer project can register online at www.unitedwayofacadiana.org or by contacting Keler Williams at 337-706-1234 or keler.williams@unitedwayofacadiana.org.
