LAFAYETTE - State Sen. Bret Allain (R-Patterson) will join the Acadiana Press Club for its September Newsmaker Forum to give an update on the I-49 South Coalition and discuss the issues and challenges of completing this interstate in South Louisiana. The forum will be held Monday, September 16 at a new location, Abacus Banquets & Receptions on Pinhook Road.
Sen. Allain was instrumental in forming the non-profit coalition with a board of directors, dues-paying members and permanent staff to advocate for and manage the completion of I-49. According to the group's website, www.drive49south.com, early estimates suggest the total cost of connecting I-49 at Lafayette to I-310 at Boutte to be $4.5 billion.
The lunch forum and membership in the Acadiana Press Club are open to journalists, media professionals, public relations professionals, public information officers, communication professors and students, retired journalists, civic and political leaders and the general public.
The Acadiana Press Club hosts public lunch meetings on the third Monday of each month. Only members of the working media and Acadiana Press Club members may ask questions during the forum.
