NEW ORLEANS (AP) - U.S. Sen. Mary L. Landrieu's office says the senator planned visits to post offices in Moss Bluff and Lafayette.
Friday's visits were set after Landrieu wrote to the Postmaster General, urging the U.S. Postal Service to extend the current moratorium on post office and mail processing facility closures.
A news release from Landrieu's office says the moratorium is in effect through May 15th. Landrieu says it should be continued until postal reform legislation is enacted.
Landrieu said closing postal facilities prior to passage of legislation aimed at putting the postal service on sound financial footing would be detrimental to communities in Louisiana and throughout the country.
