"But you're saying you had no involvement?," said KATC's Erin Steuber.
"No involvement," said Senator Elbert Guillory.
Guillory is under investigation, and is sticking to his story, despite court records, proving otherwise.
Janice Goudeau-Ardoin hired Guillory back in 2008 to sue St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz.
Guillory and Guidroz are political allies and friends, and both have contributed to each other's campaigns. Monday, because of that relationship, ethical issues were raised. Now, both Guidroz and Guillory are opening up about the situation.
Sheriff Guidroz says they're both friends, but at the end of the day they both have a job to do.
And when it comes to the case in question, Guillory maintains he wasn't even involved.
"No I didn't know that there was a lawsuit filed against the sheriff," said Guillory on September 25.
"I have never represented her in a lawsuit against the sheriff," said Guillory on October 7.
"I did not file the lawsuit against the sheriff," said Guillory.
He continues to deny he had anything to do with this case against Sheriff Guidroz.
"So how can you explain being present as her attorney?," said Steuber.
"I wasn't present. I did not participate," said Guillory.
"So why would your name show up on court minutes?," said Steuber.
"Someone made an error. I was not there. I did not participate in this lawsuit," said Guillory.
Guillory says he was hired by the plaintiff for separate lawsuit, months later after the initial one was dismissed.
Both Guidroz and Guillory don't deny they're friends and political allies but, both say, that doesn't stop them from doing their jobs.
"I don't begrudge Senator Guillory for filing suit against me as the sheriff," said Guidroz. "That's his job, he's an attorney. If you did do it then admit to it and don't create a story about it."
"The only reason this is an issue is an attempt to slur my name by some politicians who are the most egregious, slime balls on the face of this earth," said Guillory.
Senator Guillory repeatedly said he thinks he's the victim of a smear campaign but wouldn't elaborate.
Guillory is under investigation by the state disciplinary board, which is looking into allegations made by his client, Janice Goudeau-Ardoin. She says that he filed lawsuits, on her behalf without her knowledge. That investigation is ongoing.
