Senate Special Election Date Set

BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - A special election to fill a New
Orleans-based seat in the Louisiana Senate will be held in October.
New Orleans Sen. Ann Duplessis, a Democrat, is leaving the
position June 27 to take a new job in the administration of New
Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu.
The election to fill her seat will be set to coincide with this
fall's already scheduled elections, Senate President Joel Chaisson
said Monday.
The primary for the Senate seat will be Oct. 2, with a runoff if
needed scheduled Nov. 2. The sign-up period for the election will
be held from July 7 to July 9.
