BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) The Senate's budget panel plans to pull together its recommendations for the state's $25 billion operating budget within a week.
The chairman of that committee, Sen. Mike Michot, says the Senate version of the bill will look far more similar to the recommendations offered by Gov. Bobby Jindal than the budget proposal passed by the House last week.
The House backed a budget bill for the new fiscal year that begins July 1 that includes deep cuts to public hospitals, colleges and state agencies to remain balanced without using any dollars that are locked in a dispute with the Senate.
Michot says the Senate Finance Committee will include those disputed dollars when it reworks the budget bill. He says the committee is planning to make its changes next Monday.
