NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Pinnacle Entertainment, Inc. has canceled its
plans to build a second riverboat casino-hotel project in Lake
Charles and surrendered the related gaming license to state
The Las Vegas-based company announced Thursday that instead of
focusing on the $305 million Sugarcane Bay project next to
L'Auberge du Lac Casino Resort, it would focus on "furthering its
operational excellence" at L'Auberge du Lac, which has been a
major success for Pinnacle, typically drawing in more winnings from
gamblers than any of Louisiana's other 12 riverboat casinos.
Pinnacle CEO Anthony Sanfilippo says they believe focusing on
L'Auberge du Lac would result in economic growth in the Lake
Charles market and region.
In addition, the company says it remains committed to developing
its Baton Rouge casino-hotel project.
