Even though Christmas is just a few days away, those looking to help the less fortunate still have some options.
Second Harvest Food Bank is still accepting donations, in fact the food bank is always looking for donations and volunteers. With the down economy, this year the food bank saw a 60% increase in those looking for help.
"Our community needs to be fed all year-round, so we encourage the donations to continue even beyond the holidays," said Amy Fuselier, Lafayette branch manager for Second Harvest Food Bank.
It's a need Louisiana's first family recognizes. The state's first lady, Supriya Jindal was on-hand in Lafayette Monday to donate more than 1,300 lbs. of food.
"I would encourage anyone who has the ability to come out and volunteer your time, or donate canned goods, or even some funding if you're able to, every little bit goes a long way," Jindal said.
Anyone intrested in helping out can call the food bank at 237-7701.
