Police make a second arrest in the murder of Michael Darby. His body was found behind a bush in the 300 block of Polk Street Monday afternoon. Police say Darby got in a fight with two men at a downtown nightclub early Sunday morning and was stabbed to death. Officers arrested Kyle Toups of Carencro yesterday on second degree murder charges. He was found in Newton County, Texas. Now, Toups' brother, Travis Toups, is charged with accessory after the fact to second-degree murder. Investigators say, the case is still under investigation.
Darby's parents, Linda and Jerry Darby, were too upset to talk on camera. Darby's mother flipped through a photo album of her son, sharing her favorite memories. She describes her son as a true Louisiana boy, he loved to hunt, fish and cook. Darby's parents say there is nothing their son loved more than being with his family. He was also very protective of his friends.
"No matter who you were, what you believed, he was friends with everybody," said Darby's former classmate, Victoria Reed.
Reed graduated with Darby from Eunice High in 2006. Reed says, Darby loved to play football and make friends.
"He would do anything to make you laugh. That's who he was. He had a great personality," she said.
Reed is still in shock, saying she can't believe someone stabbed Darby to death. She says, he never bothered anyone.
"That's no way for someone to die. It's totally unnecessary," she said.
Reed says she'll never forget her classmate, who did everything he could to make those around him happy.
"He's not the type of person that would get into any type of trouble that would hurt him. I don't understand why someone would do that to him," she added.
