In recognition of National Hunger & Homelessness Week, Acadiana Regional Coalition on Homelessness & Housing (ARCH), Lafayette Catholic Service Centers (LCSC) and the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office (LSPO) will host its second annual resource fair, Homeless Connect: Linking Citizens with Resources & Services, on November 18, 2009 from 9 am to 2 pm.
Homeless Connect is a one-stop opportunity for individuals and families to access medical, educational, emergency and housing resources from a broad spectrum of regional homeless providers, representing an 8 parish (St. Martin, St. Mary, Evangeline, Acadia, Vermilion, St. Landry, Lafayette, Iberia) area. All are welcome. The event will be held on the Lafayette Catholic Service Centers campus located on the 400 block of St. John Street and a lunch meal will be provided by Lafayette Parish Sheriff's department. All services and resources provided will be offered free of charge, and will include medical screenings, hair cuts, goods distribution and information on topics such as hurricanes and other natural disasters, HIV/AIDS, homelessness, poverty, education, Veterans Affairs, healthcare, childcare and employment.
The community can get involved in several ways: individuals and families are invited to attend to gather information and access services, service agencies are invited to set up information tables, and businesses and individuals can donate their time, services, food or other goods. Last year's Homeless Connect assisted more than 375 people and the event is expected to expand to reach even more this year.
