What is the weather like on a perfect day? I guess that depends on the person. Most of us seem to like the mild days and cool nights we see in the spring and fall. Some may like summer heat, some prefer the cold winter days. Should we like sunshine? Clouds? A mix of both? If you have the blues, do you prefer a cold, rainy day? Maybe you prefer the lazy rainy day. Do you ever wish for certain weather because your stomach is growling for that certain something?
Statistically in Acadiana, the perfect day would bring a high temperature of 79 degrees and a low of 60 with 0.16 inches of rain. This is just basically averaging the highs and lows for the year, and also taking our yearly average rain and dividing it by 366 ( I have to include the leap year day).
Now there's only two times a year where our averages are even close when it comes to temperatures...April 16th and October 19th. I figured that April or October would be the most likely months to search for the perfect day. I was wrong.
Just finding a day with a high of 79 and a low of 60 was hard enough. I only went through the past decade because honestly, I got frustrated. I found a handful of 79/61, 78/60, 80/59 days but that 79/60 only appeared twice in the past ten years. January 2, 2009 and March 25, 2009. Not where I would have expected to find them. The March day also saw 1.77 inches of rain, while January 2 had just a trace.
So taking it a step further using the average rainfall of .16, the closest thing I could find to having the "perfect weather day" in Acadiana was on November 14, 2008. The high was 79 and the low was 59 and we had 0.14 inches of rain.
So what's your perfect weather day?
