The search resumes today for a man's body in the Atchafalaya River in Melville. St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz was at the site again on Wednesday morning. He says a male in his early 20s drove past a barricade and into the water Tuesday night.

The driver appears to have lost control, before plunging into the Atchafalaya River just as the Melville Ferry was pulling in. The car was wedged underneath the ferry.

Sheriff Guidroz said the current in the water was causing problems locating the vehicle and body. Today, Lafayette based survey company C&C Technologies, Inc. has been called out to the site. They plan to use sonar equipment to find the vehicle.
