Scott man accused of raping 8-year-old girl

Opelousas Police have arrested a man accused of raping an 8-year-old girl. 32-year-old Derrick St. Julien, of Scott, was charged with Aggravated Rape.

Police received the initial complaint in January after the victim's mother took the child to the hospital for treatment. After months of counseling and interviews, police say they received information on specific clothing worn by the victim during one her encounters with the suspect. Police say the child indicated that some of the "dirty" clothing, following one of the encounters, was thrown behind a dresser in her bedroom. Police say they went to her home on Park Avenue in Opelousas and found the clothes she was referring to. The clothing will be sent to the crime lab for analysis.

Opelousas Police say St. Julien was located in the Lafayette Parish jail; he was transported to Opelousas to face the rape charge.
