A Lafayette company is offering healthier choices for employees, not only to benefit employees, but to improve the company's productivity.
According to The Schumacher Group, that was the whole idea behind its health fair on Wednesday. It's also why the company offers fitness classes several times a week.
Schumacher employee Axel Everson said she's changed a lot in the last year.
"I mean I never worked out before and this has totally changed me. Yes it's hard, the workout is hard, but I know what the end result is," Everson said.
Everson has lost 25 pounds and has gone down four dress sizes.
"It's great I feel better, I sleep better, it changed my life," Everson said.
The Schumacher Group says that's the goal behind its healthy lifestyle push. Twenty-five health vendors at its health fair educated employees on healthy living.
"Most of our employees are working parents and they don't have opportunities to go out and find the resources that we can bring to them," Gayle George, Corporate Director of Human Resources said.
The company says that protein shakes and healthier options for employees are a win-win situation. Healthier options mean more productive employees, who are more engaged with their clients.
"We offer yoga class a couple times a week. We're hoping to offer more classes as facilities become more available to us," George said.
For Everson the benefit at her company's health fair is learning about nutrition.
"I'm looking to make better choices to help me along with my weight loss," Everson said.
