Schools on Lockdown After Inmate Breaks Free in EBR

Deputies in East Baton Rouge Parish continue to search for 34-year-old Demond Cook who escaped while headed to court today.

He was being transported by deputies from the Catahoula Parish Sheriff's Office to be sentenced for for two counts of armed robbery and one count of second-degree kidnapping, when he fled. He was facing life in prison.

Schools in the area were placed on lockdown as a precaution, including University Terrace Elementary, Buchanan Elementary, Polk Elementary, Children's Charter Elementary, South Boulevard Elementary and McKinley Middle Academic Magnet.
