AMITE, La. (AP) - The Tangipahoa Parish School Board Finance Committee has voted to renew for the 2012-13 fiscal year cuts to teacher benefits set to expire June 30.
Tuesday's vote means that school system administrators can include the cuts in projections for the 2012-13 fiscal year, which begins July 1.
The Advocate reports the cuts include a freeze in annual salary increases, called step raises, and the ending of certain professional and medical leaves.
The cuts enacted as part of the 2011-12 budget were set to expire at the end of the current school year
Bret Schnadelbach, the system's financial chief, says renewing the cuts would save the school system about $2 million.
