JENNINGS, La. (AP) - A plan to increase school breakfast and lunch costs this fall failed in a 9-3 vote by the Jefferson Davis Parish School Board.
Under the proposal, full-price student lunches would have increased by five cents with faculty full-price lunches increasing by 50 cents. Breakfasts would have increased by 25 cents for students and 20 cents for faculty.
Board member Charles Bruchhaus said Thursday he did not feel that students who receive meals at full-price should have to pay for those who receive the same meals free or at reduced prices. Currently 40 percent of the students pay full-prices for meals, with 60 percent receiving them free or at reduced prices.
The American Press reports the last increase was six years ago.
