FARMERVILLE, La. (AP) The Union Parish School Board wants an expedited opinion from the First Circuit Court of Appeal on its petition to change the way that the D'Arbonne Woods Charter school is funded. The school board also wants the replacement of $419,000 in funding that it says unlawfully went to the school during the current school year.

Union attorney Tom Jones said Monday that he hopes for a decision by mid month.

Jones and Union Parish contend the court should overturn a lower court decision upholding the funding method for the school. The News-Star reports the district believes the school should be funded through a line item appropriation by the legislature, which is contrary to an opinion by the state court in March.
