The Vermilion Parish School Board Education Committee will discuss tonight the possibility of banning shoes referred to as "Skele-toes" from its campuses. The minimalist shoes, sold as Vibram FiveFingers and by Fila under the Skele-Toes name, are designed to replicate walking barefoot and include five slots for each of the toes. School board member Anthony Fontana says some principals and board members are concerned that the shoes pose a health hazard. Fontana says the issue was brought up at the June meeting, but it was tabled to allow principals and the general public to give more input. If this motion is approved, it will be sent to the full board for final adoption.
