MONROE, La. (AP) - Ouachita Parish School Board members approved a nearly $2 million expenditure they say they will need to fully implement standardized tests the state will require for students in 2014.

The board discussed the expenditure in its Thursday meeting.

Director of data processing Ken Monroe says the money requested will only provide the technological equivalent of a "highway the cars can drive on." He says more money will be required to purchase computers to be test ready in 2014.

The expenditure was approved by a vote of 6-1.
