BOSSIER CITY, La. (AP) - Bossier City Police say scam artists have recently hit three businesses that serve as locations for Western Union, the corporation that provides money transfer services.
According to a Bossier City police news release Monday, the scam involves someone telephoning the businesses saying that they are with Western Union and that they need to run a test transaction. The "test" turns out to be an actual transfer of money.
In the three Bossier cases, the transactions sent money to the Orlando, Fla., area and left the businesses at a financial loss of about $900 each.
A representative of the company told police that Western Union does not contact its business partners in such a way and is investigating the matter with the assistance of federal authorities.
