Even though Sandy has made landfall, the effects will last for days. Elevated tides will continue along the New Jersey and New York coastlines. Heavy rain will cover much of the eastern seaboard with heavy snows farther inland. The storm surge in New York City pushed water into lower Manhattan submerging the subway system.

In the higher elevations of West Virginia, Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia, and Maryland snows could pile up to more than 2 feet. With high winds, blizzard conditions are expected.

Millions are without power and it could take weeks before everyone is back up and running.
