Hunters and other sportsmen won't have to pay sales tax this weekend when they buy guns, ammunition and an array of outdoor supplies. Louisiana's annual "Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday" runs from Friday through Sunday. Items exempt from state and local sales taxes include hunting accessories, firearms, ammunition, animal feed, clothes, binoculars, knives, decoys,
all-terrain vehicles and other outdoor items. There's no price limit for individuals. The tax-free period was created by lawmakers last year, modeled on a South Carolina law. Lincoln Parish Police Juror Jody Backus, who owns a local sporting goods store, told the Ruston Daily Leader that the sales tax holiday boosted business at his store last year. He's getting extra staff to work this weekend anticipation of a similar crowd.
