HOUMA, La. (AP) - The Terrebonne Parish Council will consider an ordinance this week that would fine anyone with pants that sag below the waist.
The ordinance, if approved on Monday, will prohibit people from wearing pants in public that hang low enough below the waistline to expose skin or underwear.
Lafourche Parish already has an ordinance that makes it illegal for anyone to reveal underwear or to dress in a way that is deemed "unbecoming of his or her sex."
According to Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office records, 45 people have been ticketed in the law's five-year existence.
Terrebonne Councilman John Navy tells The Courier the Terrebonne proposal stems from complaints from residents who say they want the parish to step in and control the situation.
