NEW ORLEANS (AP) - New Orleans Museum of Art director Susan Taylor says Russell Lord will become the photography curator in mid-October.
The historian, curator, and educator recently completed a Jane and Morgan Whitney fellowship in the Department of Photographs at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. He will be responsible for the care, interpretation, and presentation of NOMA's wide-ranging photography holdings, preparing exhibits and acquiring works.
The museum started its photography collection in the 1970s, before many art museums were doing so. It now has more than 8,500 works including some of the rarest examples and greatest photographs from the 1840s to the present. Artists include Berenice Abbott, Ansel Adams, Diane Arbus, Ilse Bing, William Eggleston, and Edward Steichen.
