Romanian man accused of money laundering in St. Landry

A Romanian man has been booked into the St. Landry Parish jail after a traffic stop on Highway 190, just west of St. Landry Parish.

According to Sheriff Bobby Guidroz, the "Highway Interdiction Team" stopped Dorin Munteanu in a black 2005 BMW. Detectives say they recovered $50,000 of U.S. currency and several fake identification cards.

Guidroz says, "allegedly, Munteanu has been laundering U.S. currency at local Wal-Marts and Money Gram locations by using several fake IDs from New Jersey and South Carolina. The money was then being shipped to Romania."

Munteanu is facing charges of money laundering, fraudulent documents and several traffic violations.

Homeland Security seized all U.S. currency and Munteanu was booked on a $104,000 bond.
