Robbery Fails After Suspect Notices Business is Locked

Press Release: On May 18, 2010 at approximately 6:00 p.m. an attempted armed robbery occurred at the Pop-N-Fuel convenience store on the corner of St. Peter and Center Street. Deputies were advised a male wearing what appeared to be a ski mask and gloves, allegedly walked to the entrance of the convenience store and reached into his waistband and brandished a handgun. Next, Deputies were told, after realizing the door was locked to the store, the suspect fled on foot south bound on Center Street.

Deputies arrived on scene and began to conduct an investigation. Detectives also arrived on scene and were able to identify the suspect and also obtain his home address. Detectives conducted a search of the suspect's residence and were able to locate possible evidence which would link the suspect to the attempted robbery.

Detectives also issued a warrant for the arrest of Randy Brooks age 31 of 530 Sofas Street. Brooks was arrested at approximately 10:36 p.m. at his residence on Sofas Street; Deputies believe he is responsible for the attempted robbery. Brooks was charged with attempted armed robbery and booked into the Iberia Parish Jail. Brooks is being held on a $35,000 bond.
