A Calcasieu Parish employee is dead after being hit by an SUV this morning while on the job.
Sheriff's deputies say 51-year-old Kent Laughlin was performing road maintenance on Garrie Cutoff Road in Vinton when he was struck by the vehicle. Laughlin was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Deputies say they do not believe impairment was a factor in the crash. However, routine toxicology samples will be taken as part of the ongoing investigation.
