Lafayette Police Department officers Dustin Lavergne and Kyle Jones were honored Tuesday night for their efforts to save a teen who drowned during a family gathering at Moore Park in May.
Lavergne and Jones arrived on scene at the pond in Moore Park and went into the water, trying to rescue 17-year-old Christlyn Willis, who ended up drowning that day. The duo searched the murky water until dive teams could arrive.
Their efforts went above and beyond the call of duty, according to LPD Chief Jim Craft. Both officers received the Paul Benoit Memorial Award for their service.
