RICHWOOD, La. (AP) - Members of the Richwood Board of Aldermen say they haven't been paid in a month because of lack of funds.
Alderman Wysinger Cleveland tells The News-Star the town's 22 employees and Mayor Alvin Jackson's administration have been paid, but aldermen were told there's not enough money to pay them for the past month.
The aldermen receive $700 a month.
Jackson hopes the aldermen can be paid next week. They were supposed to receive their checks last week.
According to Richwood's transactions from Aug. 16 to Sept. 19, the town collected enough revenue to pay its bills and employees and had approximately $2,547 left in the town's account.
According the legislative auditor, Richwood's total debt is $616,000.
