RAYVILLE, La. (AP) - Richland Parish has a new school superintendent.
The school board voted unanimously Tuesday to name Secondary Supervisor Sheldon Jones to the district's superintendent position.
The New-Star reports Jones will replace Cathy Stockton who will retire as superintendent in September.
Jones has a master's degree plus 30 hours and has served as an elementary assistant principal, middle and junior high teacher, and a high school principal. Most recently he has served in an administrative position in the district's central office where he oversees the state's standardized testing.
Jones said he wants to continue the culture of learning for students and quality job-embedded professional development for staff and teachers, to ensure that the district continues to be financially responsible and to affect the greater social, political and economic context of the community.
