Former St. Landry Parish School Board member Quincy Richard has filed a motion for acquittal in federal court in connection with his August conviction on bribery charges.
Richard argues in his filing that prosecutors had insufficient evidence to prove conspiracy against the United States Government or to prove that he demanded, solicited, or accepted any payment from then-interim superintendent Joseph Cassimere. The filing argues that Richard "never asked Cassimere for any money at any meetings." The appeal also states that Richard "is only connected to the crime of bribery because he took an official St. Landry Parish School Board envelope from (Cassimere)."
"Mr. Richard did not have any intent to accept an envelope containing bribe
money in it," the document reads. "Mr. Richard intended to accept St. Landry School Board documents from the acting Superintendent."
