Rice Festival Gets Underway in Crowley

The festival doesn't officially kick off until Friday morning, but many families came out to enjoy the games, rides and music well into the night. Long lines at the ticket booths didn't keep people from enjoying their night at the festival.

The Oliver family plans on coming back for each day of the event. With dad giving a helping hand, both daughters were able to take home prizes from the dart game.

"It's just exciting to see them have fun, to see them smile is OK with me," Ashley Oliver said.

The Body Of Christ Ministry Church from Church Point has made it a yearly tradition to come down to the rice festival. The main reason they come is to give back to the community.

"We just enjoy serving people, enjoying the fellowship, enjoying seeing people come from different nationalities and different parts of the state," Janelle Malprough said.

The queen of the festival wants to see as many people as possible come and see what this event is all about. Especially on Saturday when they crown the new Queen of the Rice Festival.

"I just hope everyone comes out and enjoys it because it's going to be one for the books," Macy LeBlanc said.
